Heat Warnings Issued Across Alberta and Saskatchewan

July 8, 2024: Environment Canada has issued heat warnings throughout Alberta and much of central and northern Saskatchewan, forecasting temperatures of at least 30 degrees Celsius in both provinces.

Parts of Alberta are expected to reach up to 35 degrees Fahrenheit by Wednesday. The extreme heat will affect major centers, including Edmonton, Calgary, and Saskatoon.

Southern Saskatchewan and Regina will also experience high temperatures, with forecasts predicting around 30 degrees for the entire week.

British Columbia has been under advisories and warnings about scorching temperatures for the last few days. Parts of B.C.’s southern Interior and northeast could see temperatures climb into the 40-degree range this week.

On Tuesday, July 9, the weather forecast in Calgary shows a mix of sun and clouds expected by late afternoon. There is a risk of a thunderstorm in the late afternoon, with winds shifting to the south at 20 km/h, gusting up to 40 km/h early in the afternoon. The high temperature will reach 31 degrees Celsius, with a humidex of 34, and the UV index will be 8, indicating very high UV exposure. The night will be clear, with temperatures dropping to a low of 19 degrees.

Similarly, Edmonton is also expected to experience a sunny day with winds becoming south at 20 km/h near noon. The high temperature will reach 34 degrees Celsius, with a humidex of 37 and a UV index of 7, indicating high UV exposure. The night will be clear with a low of 23 degrees.
