Reid Maxwell, Para-Swimmer from St. Albert, Alberta at the Paris 2024 Paralympics

Reid is a young para swimmer from St. Albert, Alberta, competing in the S8 classification. He won the Male Para Aggregate Award for the highest individual point total at the 2022 Western Canada Championships. Reid’s passion for swimming began in 2014, and he has been a dedicated competitor ever since. His uncle, Sean Maxwell, who has a background in swimming both as a coach and a competitor at the University of Alberta, has been a significant influence. Reid trains with the Edmonton Keyano Swim Club under coaches Paul Birmingham and Alex Wallingford, aiming to compete at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

What is S8 Classification in Para-swimming?

 The S8 classification in para-swimming is for athletes with physical impairments, such as amputations or limited joint mobility. Swimmers in this class may have good functional ability in their upper limbs or one leg but limited use of other limbs.
