Paris 2024 Paralympics: Para Swimming

Para-swimming is a diverse and highly competitive sport at the Paralympics, with events ranging from sprints to longer distance races across various strokes. To ensure fair competition, swimmers are classified based on their physical, visual, or intellectual impairments.

Classification:

  • S13 Classification: This classification is for athletes with the least severe visual impairment. These swimmers have good visual acuity and a visual field of fewer than 40 degrees.
  • S8 Classification: This classification is for athletes with physical impairments such as amputations or limited joint mobility. Swimmers in this class have significant ability in their upper limbs or one leg.
  • S10 Classification: This classification is for athletes with the least severe impairments, such as minor restrictions in joint movement or the loss of one hand.
