Paris 2024 Paralympics: Jolan Wong, Sitting Volleyball (Calgary, Alberta)

Jolan is a sitting volleyball athlete from Calgary, Alberta, competing in Class 1. In 2021, she was awarded ParaSport Ontario’s Female Athlete of the Year. Her prowess on the court was further recognized in 2020 when she was named Best Libero at the World ParaVolley Final Paralympic Qualification Event and Best Receiver at the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima. In 2016, she received an MP Commendation for her contributions to sport. Known as “Jo,” she began playing sitting volleyball at 18 after excelling in various sports. Her ambition is to compete in the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

What is Class 1 in Sitting Volleyball?

Sitting Volleyball Class 1 is for athletes with more severe leg impairments, like losing both legs above the knee or having frail muscles. These athletes are in Class 1 because they have difficulty moving and balancing while sitting down.
