Heidi is a dedicated sitting volleyball player from Edmonton, Alberta, competing in Class 1 at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. In 2023, she was honored as the Best Server and Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the World Cup in Cairo, Egypt. Her journey into sitting volleyball began in 2013, following a meeting with Canadian player Jolan Wong during her chemotherapy treatment. Encouraged to try out for the national team, Heidi found sitting volleyball as her pathway back to high-level competition after playing standing volleyball. She enjoys photography, traveling, and watching vinyl records outside of sports.
What is Class 1 in Sitting Volleyball?
Sitting Volleyball Class 1 is for athletes with more severe impairments affecting their legs, such as bilateral amputations above the knee or severe muscle weakness. These athletes are classified as Class 1 due to their limited ability to move and balance seated.
